NORTHWEST MUSIC SCENE
I'm a writer, photographer, artist & musician & winner of two Washington State Press Association gold medals. I'm also the author of the Adventures in Times
young adult book series. The above pics were taken with a variety of cameras. Truly I use whatever camera I have at my disposal. In my opinion, it's not the
size or cost of the camera that matters - but the person rocking it! More show reviews will come up as I have the time to write them! Have fun & stay positive!
Tacoma's Hempfest! "Way to go, Tacoma!"
Following the NW Music Scene since the '80s

shining as people began strolling into Wright Park around 11 a.m.

In the center of the community park, the sounds of live music, voices of people representing their right to free speech, and a gathering of
venders offering hemp products and supporting medicinal marajuana welcomed visitors. In stark contrast to images of drug-influenced
youth, this festival projected the feel of a peaceful political gathering focused on changing hard-set superstitions and laws regarding the
use of marijuana. To me, it was awe-inspiring.

The artistic and creative efforts of the people behind the event were evident as soon as one entered the park. Enveloped by large
evergreen and deciduous trees, the festival was set up between a string of blue tents and a children's playground to the east. A goldfish
pond lay just behind the Hempfest stage.

Throughout the day, bands played 45 minute sets without a hitch. The smooth running of the event was managed by a group of
volunteers who unloaded and reloaded band equipment, ran sound, and assisted the bouquets of attendees.  Petitions were circulated
in effort to gain signatures supporting an initiative giving Washington voters the choice to legalize marijuana and tax it, as alcohol is, and
to privatize alcohol as done in states like California. According to Cat Jeter, who managed the line-up of bands playing at Hempfest, as
many as two thousand people strolled through the free, one-day, event.
 More Hempfest photos here.

While at the festival, I was proud of Tacoma. I was proud of the city's government for letting the event occur, proud of the peaceful people
who turned out to support their political rights and freedoms, proud of Hempfest organizers, proud of its volunteers, proud of the bands
who volunteered to play, and proud of the Tacoma police officers who were not only peaceful - they looked, at times, bored.
