| Over the last ten years or so, as the Needham kids were growing up, the Needham family raised a variety of small animals at their city residence. They even named their urban mini-farm. As customary when people breed show animals, the Needham's sold animals, with the intitials OFR, placed in front of the name of the animal, to signify it came from their residence. They became a little bit famous and ended up sending out animals to breeders and hobbyists all over the states and even the world. The Needham family bred their animals to show standards. That means they used the breed standards (found in the show club's standards books) as a guide to breed their animals. Over the years, they'd keep the best animals that they bred and sell their offspring to other people. They showed their animals in national and local clubs, in the Northwest, and in the 4H (for the kids). Judges in each show club knew the standards so well, they judged the animals to see if they conformed. Their experiences are documented in pictures and writing on the following links. The Needham kids are pretty much grown up, and the Needham family no longer keeps or breeds Pocket Pets...but they do keep a couple of jumbo-sized Chihuahuas and some chickens. |
