The "True Hairless"

The "DOUBLE REX" -Guinivere

Guinivere is a double rex. They differ fron "true hairless or Nude" rats genetically. They are produced from breeding a rex male to rex female coated rat. usually, double rex mothers have no trouble caring for and lactating for their babies.

Guiniere has hair on her head and tail. She is quite the begger for sunflower seeds.That won her the award for Squishest rat in the Pet Class at the RatPacNW Show on 3-24-01.

OFR Roswell has pink colored eyes.

Hairless Rats
The hairless rat can come from different genetic make-ups.
The "true hairless" are difficult to breed because some hairless mothers have trouble lactating or producing milk for their babies.

If you are going to attempt such a breeding, a foster mother rat must be bred at the same time. If the hairless does not lactate, then supplementing all of the babies with puppy milk replacer using laboratory pipe-ettes is required or a foster mother must take over the litter.

Hairless rats do require a little more care than other rats. They need to be kept warm. They live well with furry rats because of their warmth. They eat a little more than other rats and often the males produce a hefty fat layer.They need to be on non-allergenic bedding like recycled newspaper product. And they need lots of love.

This is OFR Shaggy, a dumbo pink hairless and the son of Pharoah! He was hand-fed shortly after birth to weaning because his mother failed to lactate after two days.

OFR Pharoah

OFR Pharoah is a pink hairless with black eyes and not a hint of hair on his body. He was born Jan. 2001. he won Best Hairless and Best of Variety at RatPacNW Show on 3-24-01. On 9-22-01, he won best of Variety and Best of Show!
April 2002, Pharoah had two tumors removed from his side an a veterinary clinic. He recovered fast. His tumor regrew in Sept. 2002.

UPDATE 2005
OFR Hairless have been sent to ratteries throughout USA. Through selective breeding, our hairless are disease resistant. Life expectancy is exceeds 2 years, and has reached up to 3 years. They are still very beautiful and of show quality.

Our Hairless Rats that have crossed the Rainbow Bridge....

Rosebud, pink skin, pink-eye, was a trade from a Tacoma breeder. She was heavily wrinkled and very shy. We enjoyed her delicate ways for a little less than a year before she passed on March 7, 2002.

OFR Roswell lived close to 3 years! She died naturally of old age.

Lucky is a Nude...a hairless born in a furred litter. She had hairless babies and lactated well. Lucky was euthanized on May 23, 2002. She was always healthy until she developed an abcess that involved her inner jawline. She had difficulty eating and continued to loose weight.

Dash, our fast and plucky hairless gal had dark skin and eyes. She was euthanized Nov. 2001. She developed a severe a head tilt that left her unable to function.

OFR Peanut is the daughter of Roswell and Pharoah. She is extreamly friendly and curious. She was hand-fed puppy milk from a pipe-ette shortly after birth to weaning. She won first Place Hailress on 9-22-01! Peanut had an emergency Surgery to remove a abcess in Dec. 2001. She developed a head-tilt during the recovery. However, the head-tilt does not impair her frisky personality to date.
Peanut finally died in Summer, 2002
